Sorrow, Tears and Blood As One killed, 12 houses set ablaze in Kogi clash
A farmer was killed and 12 houses were set ablaze following a clash between members of a vigilance group and locals at Ejinya Abakpa and Ejinya Eheche communities in Ankpa Local Government area of Kogi State.
An eye witness confirmed that the incident occurred during the weekend in Ankpa Local government Area of Kogi State.
The trouble began on Thursday night when a man identified as Noah Ado was stopped by members of a vigilance group in the area but refused to do so.
It was further gathered that the said Ado ran to his room and brought out a gun and in an effort by men of the vigilance group to disarm him, he pulled the trigger and shot a farmer, later identified as Augustine Gabriel, in the thigh.
The witness said the farmer died while being rushed to a hospital, sparking outrage.
Angry youths from the community of the deceased farmer mobilised to Ejinya Eheche village where the incident happened and set 12 houses ablaze, forcing residents of the village to flee their homes.
The Police Public Relation officer of the Kogi Police Command, William Aya, confirmed the incident, adding that policemen have been deployed to the affected communities to restore normalcy.
He said investigation is ongoing into the incident.
