Mikel to Earn £140,000-a-week as Chinese Club comes knocking
Mikel John Obi is expected to sign a three-years contract with Chinese Super League side, Tianjin Teda in a matter of hours, following the completion of a scheduled medical yesterday and would earn £55,000-a-week( about N21 million-a-week) more than his pay in Chelsea.
The Nigerian captain, who has been in the news recently after he gave Valencia of Spain a deadline to make up their mind on his wage demand or his shifts to the China; made good his word as he decided to leave Chelsea for Tianjin Teda.
Valencia and Marseille, both of who were eager to have his signature could not match his wage demands and the offer from Tianjin TEDA proved too good to turn down.
Although details of the terms of the contract are yet to be finalized, reports say Mikel, who has been at Chelsea since 2006, has been offered a three-year contract and would earn £140,000-a-week.
The 29-years-old midfielder may have been attracted to China by the big money- about £55,000-a-week -more than what he received in Chelsea.
His has been hesitant to move to China as he wanted to still play in a competitive league in Europe and was unsure about moving his family to the Far East.
He will join former Chelsea team-mates Oscar, Ramires and Demba Ba in the Chinese Super League.
